Vocals and Harmonium
New Orleans native Sean is the founder of the band and loves to inspire people through a creative integration of imaginative music, yoga, storytelling, and poetry. His passion for music ranges from a deep appreciation for the transcendental power of rock, Irish folk music, Indian and Sufi devotional music.
Fretless Bass and Guitar
New Orleans native Alvin infuses the band with rich musicality and depth weaving the rock, jazz, classical, and folk styles he's been immersed in for the last 40 years. He spent years on the Crescent City music scene playing with Wynton and Branford Marsalis, local legends James Booker, James Black and many more.
Percussion and Vocals
Gwendolyn brings to the band boisterous rhythm, vocals, and personality honed from years of playing with middle eastern, flamenco, and avant garde bands. Her percussion dashboard includes frame drums, cajon, high hat, kick drum, doumbek, and karbobs- playing with merging ancient rhythms with a modern, urban flare.
What People Are Saying About The Band
"Imagine if Krishna Das and The Funky Meters teamed up and you might get a sound similar to Sean Johnson And The Wild Lotus Band."
“If you think that a kirtan is a pious sit-still event, you have obviously not heard Sean Johnson and the Wild Lotus Band! A very wise man (George Clinton) once said, “Free your mind and your ass will follow.” Sean, Gwendolyn and Alvin have taken those words to heart and bring a little soul to some amazing bhakti (devotional) music.”
Lisa West, Elephant Journal
“A joy to listen to whether you’re a yogi or anyone who appreciates wildly creative music.”
"A cauldron of simmering, bubbling, delectable chants that bring to mind Grateful Dead jams, a little Santana spice, and an all-around endearing space that draws you in with each listen."
